While Destiny was in her own little world of domestic bliss, Makeba was hustling hard. Finally she had gotten away from Destinyâs control and she was making the most of it.
First Makeba started out bouncing checks here and there, before she realized that that was a sure way to go to jail. It didnât take long for her to hook up with her classmate, Tracy.
Tracy took Makeba to meet a middle-aged African lady in Yonkers, New York. The lady told Makeba what to do. First she instructed her to report to the Department of Motor Vehicles that her driverâs license was lost, so she could receive another. Then she successfully altered her new license, changing some critical personal information on it. Then the lady began making out bogus checks to Makeba.
It didnât take long for Makeba to start doing her thing in department stores. The naïveté Makeba had about her now worked in her favor. The cashiers never suspected any fraud on Makebaâs part. They never saw the wolf in sheepâs clothing coming.
Makeba met little resistance, and as a direct result she was able to surpass Destiny in the amount of money she made off each caper. Makeba began feeling herself. Nobody could tell her anything, least of all Destiny. She was the shit and she knew it.
As a way of paying back the African woman, Makeba would get her gift cards of the largest monetary value she could find. For some reason the woman had a strange feeling the police would be closing in on her soon, due to the vast number of young girls she had working the streets. All of them didnât share the same good fortune Makeba had. Quite a few young girls had recently gotten popped in different parts of the city. In light of that, the lady informed all parties involved that she was shutting down and going on the âdown low.â
The woman had taken a liking to Makeba, because in the short time they did business Makeba had become one of her top money-makers. So in hopes of some day hooking up with her again, the African woman told her how and what she did. She instructed Makeba on which computer programs to buy, what kind of printer, and what type of paper she would need to pull this hustle off. Makebaâs book smarts had finally come in handy in the streets. She was now able to use her math skills and working knowledge of the computer to her advantage.
The rest was history. Makeba began making her own checks and recruiting her own criminal team to bust them for her, with the spilt being sixty-forty her way.
With her newfound wealth, Makeba began to step up her game to a whole new level. She was âhood rich and proud of it. She began dressing better and living better. She finally left her parentsâ house and moved into a townhouse in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Now that she was an established player in the game, Makeba noticed something very strange.
